Arachnids

Phiddipus - West Indies - male

This is one of my favorite pictures. Again, high magnification macro was used to get this close, and it took several patient hours of preparation. The spider itself was gorgeous - notice the bright magenta chelicerae and the orange abdomen. It had apparently come in with some fruit from the West Indies, and when found, was given to London Zoo. They called me up (I did a lot of work with the Insect House in those days) and asked if I wanted it. I kept in captivity for nearly two years, which was pretty cool, as he was a mature adult when I received him.
